Spontaneous resolution of arteriovenous malformation without hemorrhage.

چکیده
The patient was a 25-year-old , right-handed man who had been hyperactive and nervous as a child. A grand mal seizure disorder had developed when he was 15. A brain scan and CT scan at that time showed a . small, calcified , left posterior temporal lesion. The patient was told that it was inoperable because of its location, and anticonvulsants were prescribed. In May 1984, poor seizure control led to repeat CT and angiography (Figs. 1 A and 1 B), which showed a small , calcified, left posterior temporal AVM with a diameter of 1.5 to 2.0 cm that was fed by the left posterior temporal branch of the middle cerebral artery. Again he was told that the lesion was inoperable. After 2 years of continued seizures, the patient was referred to our institution. He had had no previous episodes of headache, nausea, vomiting , or meningismus associated with his seizures. Repeat angiography (Fig . 1 C) showed no evidence of arteriovenous malformation, early draining, or other abnormal vascular changes. Dense calcification was noted in the left temporal area on plain skull films, and this was even more obvious on CT scans (Fig. 1 D).

Spontaneous hemorrhage in an intraorbital arteriovenous malformation.
OBJECTIVE To report the clinical findings and management of spontaneous hemorrhage in an unsuspected intraorbital arteriovenous malformation. DESIGN Interventional case report. METHODS Review of clinical findings, radiologic studies, and treatment of the patient. RESULTS A 75-year-old woman sought treatment for the rapid onset of severe proptosis. Orbital exploration of a "mass" imaged on...
متن کاملSpontaneous complete regression of cerebral arteriovenous malformation.
A 55 year-old man started with headaches in 2005. He underwent MRI that showed left frontal arteriovenous malformations (AVM) without evidence of hemorrhage. An arteriography revealed AVM supplied by the left anterior cerebral artery (Figures 1A and 1B). In 2010 the patient had an episode of cerebral hemorrhage confirmed with CT and MRI (Figures 2A, 2B and 2C). Referred to our service for treat...
متن کاملSpontaneous Partial Regression of Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformation
Arteriovenous malformation (AVM) of the brain is one of the important pathologic conditions which cause intracerebral or subarachnoid hemorrhage, epilepsy, or chronic cerebral ischemia. The spontaneous regression of cerebral AVM is reported to be very rare and more likely to occur when the AVM is small, is accompanied by hemorrhage, and has fewer arterial feeders. We report a case of right occi...
متن کاملRendering a ruptured arteriovenous malformation more susceptible to spontaneous obliteration as a possible treatment strategy for cerebral AVM
Spontaneous regression of cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is a rare phenomenon, but its occurrence is an important consideration in treatment planning. A 58-year-old male was found to have a high-flow AVM of Spetzler-Martin Grade III. Before his scheduled treatment, the AVM ruptured with a large parenchymal hemorrhage. Following emergency decompressive surgery, a targeted embolization...
متن کاملBrain arteriovenous malformation biology relevant to hemorrhage and implication for therapeutic development.
Brain arteriovenous malformations cause intracranial hemorrhage. Molecular characterization of lesional tissue implicates angiogenic (vascular endothelial growth factor, ANG-2, matrix metalloproteinase-9) and inflammatory (cytokines and chemokines) pathways, but the pathogenesis remain obscure and medical therapy is lacking. Macrophage and neutrophil invasion has also been observed in the absen...
متن کاملAcute Spontaneous Subdural Hematoma due to Rupture of a Tiny Cortical Arteriovenous Malformation
Acute subdural hematoma (SDH) of arterial origin is rare, especially SDH associated with an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is extremely rare. The authors report a case of acute spontaneous SDH due to rupture of a tiny cortical AVM. A 51-year-old male presented with sudden onset headache and mentality deterioration without a history of trauma. Brain CT revealed a large volume acute SDH compres...
